Off-campus access to ScienceDirect stops at the publisher's paywall

I can sign in to the portal from home, but every ScienceDirect article opens the publisher's own paywall instead of our subscription. The same article opens normally on campus. I have tried Chrome and Safari on two devices.

  2. Faisal Al-Dosari Library support 30 Jul 2026, 11:02

Thank you — this looks like the off-campus route rather than your account, because your subscription is active. Could you open the link below while you are off campus and tell us exactly what the page says? If it asks you to sign in a second time, please copy the wording.

  3. Waiting for your answer Since 30 Jul 2026

Nobody is working on this request until you reply. If you answer, it goes straight back to Faisal. If nothing arrives by 13 Aug 2026 it closes on its own — and one reply reopens it with everything above still attached.

Replies also arrive by email. Answering that email adds your message to this thread — you never have to come back here to be heard.

The library answers most requests within 4 hours during service hours, Sun–Thu.

What each status means 4 statuses
Open We have your request but nobody has picked it up yet. This is usually a matter of hours during service hours. With the library A named member of staff is working on it. You do not need to do anything. Waiting for you We asked you something and cannot go further until you answer. Requests left unanswered for 14 days close on their own. Closed Finished. Replying to a closed request within 30 days reopens it with all of its history.
Who can see a request, and for how long 3 rules
Who reads it Only the library team your request was routed to, and the person it is assigned to. Other members never see it. What travels with it Your name, department and email, plus anything you attach and the page you were on when you asked. How long it is kept 12 months after closing. After that the text and attachments are deleted and only the reference number and category remain, for counting.

Requests are the only support channel that keeps a record for you. Live chat and the phone are faster for a quick question, but nothing said there appears on this page unless staff raise a request for you.
